Di Timur Matahari (2012)
Mazmur, Thomas, Agnes, Yokim and Suryani are still waiting for the light that will help them get out of the darkness. Everyday Mazmur waits for the replacement teacher on an old apron, the only link connecting their village in Papua central mountains with the rest of the world. It has been six months since they didn’t have a teacher.
Because a teacher never comes, those five kids learn from their surroundings. From Reverend Samuel, Doctor Fatimah, Uncle Ucok and Uncle Jolex they gain much knowledge. One event changes it all. Mazmur’s father, Blasius, is killed by Joseph, Agnes’s father and Yokim’s and Suryani’s uncle. An inter-village war is unavoidable. Meanwhile the news of Blasius’s death reaches Michael, Blasius’s brother who has been adopted by Mama Jawa, living and studying in Jakarta. Michael is extremely shocked.
With Vina, his wife, he decides to return to Papua and try to settle down the matter. His youngest brother, Alex, defies him. War is the only way for Alex to avenge for Blasius’s death. In any case, adults may fight each other, but not Mazmur, Thomas, and their three friends. In the midst of their warring villages, they stay friends and try to reconcile people.
