Sumanto (Jeremias Nyangoen) is a naive and poor young man who lives in a village in Banyumas, Central Java. He is arrested by the police for alleged corpse-eating. The cannibalism shocks the village and becomes a media controversy. A young journalist, Lili Wijaya (Farach Diana) is assigned to cover Sumanto’s story. She interviews Sumanto inside the prison cell. Through flashbacks, he describes how he likes eating insects such as crickets. He also describes how as a young man, he used to date Samien (Aty Cancer), a girl in his village. But the village boys beat him for dating her. Then he wants to become invincible. So he seeks Ki Sirat’s (Sudjiwo Tejo) help who tells him that invincibility requires that he eat corpses. He then migrates to Lampung, to work in the plantation. When a robber confronts him, Sumanto kills him in self-defence. Then he eats the corpse. This habit continues when Sumanto returns to his village, until he is reported to the police. Lili then tries to interview Ki Sirat. Ki Sirat brings her to an isolated place and threatens to kill her if the news ever gets to court. Lili escapes the threat and completes the report.
