Republik Twitter (2012)

“Today vox populi is Twitter voice,” says Kemal (Tio Pakusadewo), a communication consultant to Arif Cahyadi (Leroy Osman), a businessman whose name is suddenly being a Twitter’s trending topic. Kemal’s success to make Arif’s name buzzing on the virtual world raises Arif’s figure in the Jakarta governor candidacy. Behind Kemal’s success there’s the adeptness and hard work of a young man, Sukmo (Abimana Aryasetya), in brewing 140 characters.

Sukmo, a student in senior year from Yogyakarta, at first comes to Jakarta to pursue a love commitment from a beautiful journalist called Hanum (Laura Basuki). Both know each other on Twitter. Via Twitter Hanum dares Sukmo to meet in Jakarta. Andre (Ben Kasyafani), Sukmo’s Jakartan room mate, sneers at his plan. On the other side, Rika (Jennifer Arnelita), Hanum’s colleague, warns Hanum not to believe in a relationship that begins on the internet.

Sukmo is asked to administer Twitter accounts of “important figures”. In a short period he’s able to get a lot of money so that he’s confident enough to meet Hanum. But seeing a Jakarta-style Sukmo, Hanum loses her interest. Sukmo is even more disappointed knowing that she’s about to resign from being a journalist. From wanting to have a love commitment, Sukmo goes in a determination to prevent Hanum from resigning. He has a big pitch that’s going to be a huge coverage for Hanum to do. But the big news forces Sukmo to stand against Kemal’s ambition, Arif Cahyadi’s reputation and even his friendship with Nadya (Enzy Storia).
