Tanah Surga… Katanya (2012)
After his wife’s death, Hasyim, a former 1965 Indonesian-Malaysian confrontation volunteer is determined never to get married again. He lives with his only son who’s also a widower and his two grandchildren, Salman and Salina. Living on the Indonesian-Malaysian border is a problem of its own due to economic underdevelopment.
Astuti, an elementary school teacher in town, comes unexpectedly. She teaches at a school that’s almost falls apart and hasn’t operated for a year. Not long afterwards, there comes also dr Anwar, a young professional who thinks he can’t compete with other doctors in the city.
A conflict builds up when Hasyim learns that Haris has married with a Malaysian woman and plans to take Salman and Salina away. Salman, who’s close to his grandfather, opts to stay in Indonesia.
Hasyim is sick. dr Anwar makes efforts to tend him and regularly treats him with prescriptions. But Hasyim’s condition deteriorates due to the lack of facility and medication. Dr Anwar decides to take him to the city hospital. Using Salman’s money, Hasyim is taken by boat. Astuti and dr Anwar accompany them but Hasyim is already beyond help. On the way there Hasyim dies at the same time of Haris’s cheerings over Malaysia’s victory over Indonesia in a soccer game.
